Help support solar power! You can participate in a postcard party after services on Sunday, April 21. We’re writing postcards in support of HB 197 in the Ohio General Assembly. This is a bill, currently in the House Utilities Committee, that would support community solar power. With the passage of HB 197, for the first time, solar power would be available for renters, condos, townhomes, and most small to medium size businesses who cannot install rooftop solar.
Community solar allows individuals, businesses, or organizations to buy or subscribe to a “share” in a local solar project. When you join a community solar project, you receive a credit on your electric bill each month. The size of your share determines how much credit you receive.
Community solar can provide meaningful savings on utility bills, usually from 5-20%. Community solar projects also create real, local economic impacts, creating jobs and building wealth in the communities where the project is built. Community solar programs are available in many states. Unfortunately, it is currently not legal in Ohio.
NOT YET. We’d like to change that!
FaCT will supply the postcards and the postage. All we have to do is write messages on the postcards to members of the Utilities committee in support of this proposed legislation. This would not be an official position of the church, but an expression by each individual who is willing to participate in this activity.
This is an easy activity and it will give everyone a chance to do something for the earth around Earth Day this year.
