Dear friends,
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and here at East Shore we once again take up the sacred work of remembrance, justice, and compassion. Each year, our “Silent Witnesses” stand on our grounds—names, stories, and lives cut short by domestic violence. They remind us that the work of faith is not only about hope but also about courage: to name the truth, to stand with survivors, and to proclaim that every person deserves safety, dignity, and love.
This month, we continue a new tradition with our Social Justice Soup Nights. These evenings are meant to nourish more than our bodies. As we share a meal, we also share our stories, our visions, and our commitments. We network and organize, yes—but we also laugh, relax, and remember that justice work is not meant to be carried alone. And, it ends with a drum circle! Together, we cultivate belonging.
To belong here means to know you are part of something bigger than yourself. It means showing up, even in small ways, for the sake of healing and hope. It means finding your voice and lending your hand, not just for your own flourishing, but for the flourishing of all.
In a world that so often isolates, divides, and harms, our community stands as a counter-testimony. Here, you matter. Here, your presence helps weave the fabric of resilience and love. Together, we are making a difference.
May this October be a time of remembrance, courage, connection, and belonging.
With care,
Rev. Will
