Greening Our Coffee Hour

The Social Justice Council is moving forward with a plan to make our Sunday Coffee Hours more sustainable, “green” if you will.  We want to reduce, as much as possible, the use of paper cups and paper plates for Coffee Hours.  We hope to accomplish this with the cooperation of the entire congregation.  This will involve two practices.

First, “Show Your Mug at Church.” We ask everyone at East Shore to bring your own cup to church for coffee each Sunday instead of using a paper cup.  Most of us have travel mugs that we can bring, use at church, then take home to wash.  Or you may just have a favorite coffee cup to bring each Sunday.

Second, we are asking church organizations to volunteer to help Terry in the kitchen each Sunday.  This will enable Terry and her helpers to use church china and wash it at the end of coffee hour, so we won’t have to use paper plates.  We will need two volunteers the first Sunday of each month – Potluck Sundays.  We’ll need just one volunteer the other Sundays to help our super-dedicated Terry DeTar.  She needs to have her load lightened. Don’t you agree?

To begin, the Social Justice Council will supply volunteers for January and February.  You will see their names posted on the wall near the pass-through counter.  Please cooperate with whatever organization you are in, be it the Choir, the Board, the Men’s Group, etc.

Many thanks to all! – Ron Prosek & Jan Hurwitz – Social Justice Council
